UnSee – Transition Paradigms for Service Design

The societal challenges we are facing are becoming increasingly wicked and interconnected giving way to a global polycrisis. Within this landscape, service design is increasignly facing more complex issues to which solutionist and reductionist approaches do not work. Therefore the challenges service designer will face in the next years will be connected to rethinking the practice itself by overcoming monolitical paradigms that have been taken for granted in the past. It will requires us to go beyond linearity, beyond solutionism, beyond reductionism and beyond short-termism.

A transition-oriented perspective that consider both the systemic and the long-term elements of transformation in service design can be a starting point to rethink the discipline by favouring new meta-spaces to appreciate relational entanglements and speculate about radical futures.
